In Here Burns My Candle, Liz Curtis Higgs offers a retelling of the beloved Old Testament story of Ruth and Naomi. Higgs manages to beautifully, and subtly accomplish this retelling with magnificent characters and a story set in 18th Century Scotland. In this story we find the women struggling with faith. One seeking who she is, the other struggling to remember what she believes. As I read, I couldn't wait to see where their choices would ultimatly leave them.
Here Burns My Candle is a story of love, betrayal, loss and redemption. While I did find that with so many characters the book seemed to hold a few too many storylines to easily keep track of, I still enjoyed the story and found it hard to put down.
